Gia mentioned that it was said on a Saturday; the dinner parties are hosted on Wednesdays. She also mentioned that he was drunk when he said it. It may have been outside in a pub or something. Not everything is recorded and the couples go out and mingle outside of what we see.

His version on lod school traditional values and masculine are skewed. He thinks being masculine is being domineering, harsh, selfish & insulting. Not once did he ask what she wanted in marriage.
